As a huge fan of Sylvia Plath, Ginsberg and Nabokov as she was, she was quickly drawn to writing. The passion to tell stories - often personal - even before putting them to music. With Collapsed in Sunbeams (title extrapolated, coincidentally, from the pages of the novel On Beauty by Zadie Smith), Arlo Parks emphasizes this literary passion of her, transforming it completely into music.
And he manages to tackle issues like romantic separation (Caroline), unrequited love (Eugene) or alcoholism (Hurt), with rare finesse and intelligence. His bittersweet melodies accompany often melancholy, sometimes sad lyrics with a viscerally pop energy.
