San Francisco, United States. Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is an investigative journalist, who has his own board at a local station. One day, he is scheduled to interview Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), the creator of the Life Foundation, who has invested heavily in space missions to find possible medicinal uses for mankind. After accessing a confidential document sent to his girlfriend, lawyer Anne Weying (Michelle Williams), Brock discovers that Drake has done scientific experiments on humans. He decides to report this situation during the interview, which causes him to be fired. Six months later, the still-unemployed Brock is sought by Dr. Dora Skirth (Jenny Slate) with a complaint: Drake would be using alien symbiotes in human trials, many of them dead as guinea pigs.
