Summary:

Set in 1982 in the suburb of Blackeberg, Stockholm, twelve-year-old Oskar is a lonely outsider, bullied at school by his classmates; at home, Oskar dreams of revenge against a trio of bullies. Video encoded in two-pass 11.0 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. Text subtitles converted to SRT, image subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.

Note : This film might have children as the main characters, but it's hardly a film for children, featuring as it does bloody murders, insinuated pedophilia, bullying, grotesque disfiguration, and a doomed romantic relationship that might or might not just be a sociopath using a kid. It's beautifully shot by Hoyte van Hoytema, freezing cold Swedish winter through reflections, distortions, and out of focus that makes it seem very intimate, but also difficult to get a grip on, and has some haunting performances. A really great film in all senses, and a very uncomfortable one.

Oskar is a 12-year-old in a suburb of Stockholm in the early 80s who's regularly bullied, and whose revenge fantasies and morbid interests lead him to collect newspaper clippings about murders. One night while outside alone, he meets Eli, who seems to be a pale girl about his age, and who's recently moved into a neighboring apartment along with an older man, Håkan. She tells him they can't be friends, but they slowly and hesitantly develop a relationship. Eli tells Oskar he needs to stand up for himself. However, Håkan seems to be killing people and draining them of blood, and things point to Eli not being a little girl at all. Håkan gets caught in the act, difigures himself with acid to avoid identification, and is later killed in the hospital by Eli, who can scale sheer walls, and who drinks Håkan's blood before he falls out the window. As Oskar and Eli's relationship develops, the presence of a murderous monster becomes apparent to at least some people in the community, and things come to a head between Oskar, Eli, Oskar's bullies, and those who want to track down the monster.

This is a near-perfect Blu-Ray, apart from the slightly weird framing which required a little cropping, but the image quality is great, as are both 5.1 tracks (although as usual, just use the original with subtitles). The two director/writer commentary tracks are not just two languages of the same thing, they're different and both good, and there are English subtitles for the Swedish one.
