Filmul spune povestea lui Doru, un tăietor de lemne rămas văduv de o săptămână. Doru știe că va trebui să o ducă înapoi la orfelinat pe Meda, fetița pe care au avut-o timp de opt ani în asistență maternală. Ca să o păstreze pe Meda acasă și să poată depune el dosarul pentru asistență maternală, Doru trebuie să facă rost de bani.
Însă într-o localitate izolată, unde doar mersul la tăiat de lemne și vânzarea vacilor pot aduce bani legal, Doru este forțat să accepte, după ce a încercat tot ce este omenește posibil, să participe la o acțiune de braconaj.
În decurs de 6 zile, Doru se transformă dintr-un om serios, care respectă anumite principii, refuzând să participe la comiterea unor fapte ilegale, într-un om torturat de imposibilitatea de a o păstra pe Meda.
