As a gentle young wife and mother who is suddenly and shockingly told by her doctor that she is dying of cancer and that she has but a few more months to live, Margaret Sullavan plays with such sincerity, such dignity and restraint that the morbid and tearful situation of this poor woman is cloaked in gallantry. Through all of the natural reactions of a decent young mother doomed to die, she moves with respectable distraction, and her slow reconciliation to death and to the thought of her husband and child without her is quietly and credibly achieved.
