Stranglehold is an action game, performed under the watchful eye of the famous director named John Woo. This product is in fact the continuation of the film Hard Boiled (Polish title is Children of the Triad) from 1992 - this was the last work of the aforementioned cinematographic artist, shot in Hong Kong before moving to Hollywood. Developers from the Midway corporation therefore gave us a dynamic and effective presentation of the scenario assumptions using three-dimensional graphics, displayed thanks to the third-generation Unreal Engine. In order to guarantee high quality of the visual frame, the authors of the discussed product have only made it available to the owners of PeCets and modern consoles (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360).
We take control over the character of the detective with the pseudonym Tequila, to whom Chow Yun-Fat lent - of which, among others, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Bulletproof Monk (Bulletproof) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest). The main character must bring order to the cities flooded with successive waves of crime (Far-Eastern Hong Kong and American Chicago), saving on the occasion of his ex-girlfriend and her daughter. Women were kidnapped by ruthless gangsters. Of course, the liquidation of thugs often enforces the operation on the border of the law, which usually results in a large number of corpses, completely demolished interiors of buildings etc.
The gameplay includes many elements that are characteristic of John Woo's sensational films. The protagonist often operates two pistols at once, the figures jump over obstacles like tigers, and the bullets flying in different directions lead to enormous destruction of the surroundings. In addition, the course of events (Tequila Time system) can be released at appropriate moments, which makes it easier to shoot, for example, several enemies at once. The Havok physical algorithms also make a good impression on the user. The whole is complemented by a great working virtual camera (the action is always shown with the best possible shot) and the presence of cutscenes, ensuring the consistency of the plot.
With a single player in mind, seven extensive chapters have been prepared, taking place in the streets of Hong Kong, in the slums, inside a luxury restaurant or in an art museum located in Chicago. The game also includes a full-fledged multiplayer game for six people. We can choose between two modes of fun (Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch), playing on seven maps.
