Summary:

Tells the story of Michael Berg, a German lawyer who as a teenager in the late 1950s had an affair with an older woman, Hanna, who then disappeared only to resurface years later as one of the defendants in a war crimes trial stemming from her actions as a concentration camp guard late in the war. He alone realizes that Hanna is illiterate and may be concealing that at the expense of her freedom.

Germania, anni '50. Michael Berg é un ragazzo in piena età adolescenziale e quindi in preda ai primi turbamenti e alle prime voglie sessuali tipiche di quell'età. Un giorno, mentre cammina per strada, é vittima di un malore, e viene soccorso da Hannah, una donna matura, più grande di lui. Michael, rimane affascinato ed invaghito di questa donna tanto che inizia una relazione con la stessa. Hannah però, nasconde qualcosa, qualcosa che riguarda il suo passato, e Michael, intuisce che si tratta di qualcosa legato alla guerra...
